Organise a street party

Swansea is celebrating the 50th anniversary of becoming a city in 2019.  Communities across the city are holding street parties with their friends and neighbours to celebrate this milestone.

When should I hold my Swansea 50 street party?

HRH Prince Charles came to Swansea on 3 July 1969 after his investiture as the Prince of Wales to deliver the proclamation that Swansea was to become a city.  Swansea then officially became a city on 10 December 1969.

While you may want to choose the anniversary of one of these dates to hold a celebration, you can choose any date for your street party.  3 July this year is on a Wednesday, so many communities are holding theirs the weekend before or afterwards.

Whatever date you choose, don’t forget to let us know and we’ll tell everyone about it right here!

How do I organise my street party?

Swansea Council has lots of information about holding a street party, including whether you need a road closure or any licences on their website here:  www.swansea.gov.uk/organisestreetparty

Do you have any Swansea 50 decorations I can use?

Our Swansea 50 logo is free for you to use for your event.  You can download the Swansea 50 logo here.

Your local councillor may be able to assist if you would like items such as Swansea 50 branded bunting or other decorations.  Or you may wish to make your own!  Be as creative as you like.  This is your celebration!
